CLU Standard Issue Surfers Spine

CLU Standard Issue Surfers Spine

CLU Standard Issue Surfers Spine

A new take on the Standard Issue featuring the double border design.   We tweaked our favorite font super hero style.  At first I didn't think it was hardcore enough for the back, but it grew and grew and grew and grew on me.   Each piece of the shirt is +++

The Surfer's Spine

It was actually made by mistake.  I was thinking about making a Totem and to put the Don't Stare at the Locals on it.  I made one of the layers, and the totem idea wasn't working.   I saw it stacked though, maybe looking like a spine.  It ended up working out pretty well, and i didnt change much from the initial stacking.   The Spine also ended up perfect for the concept of the shirt.   It is us, our people, our togetherness, our strength, unity and downright sic.

A Signs Origin

I had the Idea for Coastal Local/Coastal Local Clothing as well as the "Don't Stare at the Locals" back in 2005.  It wasn't until I saw a "High Water" caution sign pictured in the local newspaper that It came to me to put it on a caution sign.  After that I knew I had to go for it with the Company.

Coastal Local Underground, what else would work but skull and surfboards.  I wanted a skull like that late night movie musical that had some animation in it, so I sat down with a friend and we designed this together.  The friendship didn't last long after the stabbing.  I guess I forgive you.  My goal has alway been to have a company recognizable by its' skull.  I thought the whole concept behind it with the underground, skull, and surfboards was genius though, one of my better ideas.

I had trouble recreating my original image but the company that had bought out my original screenprinter had my original skull all separated, and was nice enough to give it to me.  This is just the top portion of that.

Long Beach Washington 2008, "Is that a gang thing"

A couple of weeks after the Introduction of the Coastal Local Underground design.  Will was pulled over wearing one.  The Officer asked this important question.  Never was, just a way to identify other Coastal Locals and show them your a beach monster also.

Willy the Destroyer

Back in" 95" or so that was my Email identity.  Now it is my alter ego business personality, one of many.  Disgruntled Willy and Toxic Willy are also fairly out of control.  Anyways, I get a laugh if you call me any of these.
